Medical Outreach – Enduring Love Christian Assembly (ELCA)

Overview

A medical outreach was conducted at ELCA Offin Branch, Ikorodu, as part of ongoing community health and wellness programs. The combined service for all ELCA branches in Ikorodu provided an excellent platform to educate the congregation on health, nutrition, and disease prevention. 



The visiting team included Dr. Oluwadara Okorafor, Dr. Chinedu Okorafor, Mrs. Peace Eberechukwu (General Manager, PHM), and Mr. Israel Odoko (Media Officer).

Many children with special needs require physiotherapy, medication, and specialized medical attention.

Facilities


Sanitation and hygiene are commendably maintained. The home provides regular meals and structured routines for the children.

Administration


The home maintains records for feeding, schooling, medication, and medical visits. Reports are submitted to supervisors for accountability.

Staffing 


Dedicated caregivers manage daily routines, though there is limited access to professional medical support.

Gender Distribution


Primarily houses girls, with a smaller group of boys under the supervision of a resident priest.

Interactive Session

A highly engaging Q&A session followed, with questions on traditional medicine, drug safety, and hydration. Dr. Oluwadara emphasized reliance on scientific medical guidance and the importance of preventive healthcare. The lively discussion fostered learning and reflection among the congregation.

Recommendations

To tackle malnutrition among children, Dr. Oluwadara proposed the creation of ‘Oluwadara’s Kitchen’—a sponsored nutrition program to provide boiled eggs, milk, and multivitamins every Sunday to children under age 5 and those identified with malnutrition.
